Workshops: the Cluster has proposed to provide three workshops. The delivery of these workshops is the first overall goal of the Cluster, with the aim of having the three Workshops completed between September 2024 – September 2025. Funding may be available for travel and honorarium will be provided for First Nation participants. If you wish to receive updates about the upcoming workshops, please see Upcoming Events [link] or contact Liz Campbell (liz.campbell@ubc.ca; Project Coordinator) to be added to the mailing list.

Workshops

Workshop #1 – Building Relations in Repositories: a community-led discussion about physical repository access, storage needs and current impediments.

Our first workshop was held in-person at the UBC Green College on October 28th, 2024 and virtually (via Zoom). It was attended by approximately 75 people total, with 30 people in-person and 45 people online. The invitation was shared with those who have experience working closely with or for archaeological repositories. Attendees were from various affiliations including First Nations, museums, academic institutions, and consulting archaeology firms.

The theme of Workshop #1 was “Building Relations in Repositories – a community-led discussion about physical repository access, storage needs and current impediments.”

The goal of the Workshop was to share experiences in creating, organizing and running archaeology repositories (i.e. archaeological materials, belongings (artifacts), ancestral remains, and other cultural materials) discuss the current issues and challenges facing repositories, and brainstorm possible solutions; and work towards building better repositories.

Workshop #2

Early May 2025. Topic and date to be confirmed.

Workshop #3

Fall 2025. Topic and date to be confirmed.
